The Sad Truth Of Baseball Athletes And Drugs

It is sad but true that over the last Decade there seems to have been a big rise in the number of so called super athletes that have been suspected of enhancing their performance with the help of drugs. Many times there has been a great performance by an athlete only for it to be later suspected of being drug enhanced.

We certainly cannot compare the super athletes of today with those great athletes of years ago that accomplished their great records without any outside influences.

Many fans of sport such as Major league Baseball have started to become disillusioned with the whole drug cheat scenario and have decided not to turn up for any more sporting events.

Nobody likes to see attendances at sporting events dwindle. If you look at the latest statistics it shows that Baseball attendances have dropped by around 1 or 2 percent. This may not seem a lot in itself but considering that other sports have growing attendances then this is a major concern.

This is one of the main reasons why Bud Selig and his science advisors in Major League Baseball are trying to formulate a blood test to test for human growth hormone. Selig along with many others feel that HGH should be banned completely in sport.

You could argue that it is already banned in Major league Baseball but as there is no official test to police this then it is very hard to ban somebody. There is only at the moment an honor system in place which evidently is not the best solution to the problem.

If an athlete does use an enhancement drug to make their performance better they are very unlikely to admit to it to the authorities.

At least we can still look back to the great athletes of yesteryear who managed to excel in their profession, and do it with pride.
